Road traffic is growing at an explosive rate. From Europe to Australia, from Kenya to Korea, socio economic developments are generating increasing pressure on road capacity, with a resultant increase in deaths and injuries and a subsequent focus on road safety. Implementation of a road safety policy is necessary, road traffic enforcement is the most important element for a successful implementation of a road safety policy.
About 50,000 people in Europe are killed every year due to traffic accidents. But due to rigorous traffic enforcement there was a thirty percent reduction of traffic accidents. Fifteen to twenty percent of this reduction are due to speed and red light enforcement. Conclusion: these means of enforcement indeed increase safety and reduce the number of deaths and injuries.
