GATSO History

The story of GATSO and the history of traffic enforcement are one and the same. In fact, you could say that being the industry leader is in our company's DNA.

Founded by Monte Carlo racing champion, engineer and inventor Maurice Gatsonides, GATSO introduced the world’s first speed measurement device in 1958 and the first speed camera, the Gatsometer, in 1964.

For the past 50 years, GATSO engineers, scientists, and photographic experts have worked diligently to create the world's most sophisticated traffic enforcement systems. It’s no wonder that GATSO has been chosen to deliver and implement 45,000 installations in more than 60 countries.

Our passion for keeping people safe on the road is as much alive today as it was then, both at GATSO and through our global team of experts and partners. This is why we remain the leader in speed and red light enforcement.
